Motels down the Shore
This is a historical index and participatory map of the auto camps, tourist cabins, and motels on the Jersey Shore. Over the past century, more than 1100 sites were produced to accommodate those arriving to the region by car. Today, these buildings are increasingly being converted or demolished. The purpose of this project is to preserve their architectural and social histories as well as recall a time in which the Shore belonged to the people.

This project is an archive in progress. I have tried to locate all of the region's motels, note their present status, and link to online images. I am in the process of adding descriptions of each site. If you would like to add a missing motel or share your memories / photos from a site, please complete this form, or email Gregory Woolston.

This project was assisted by a grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State.
